What is WUSA?
+ What I did
    for them

WUSA is the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association. They run student services & commercial operations, host events, manage governance, and more.

As the graphic design co-op, I worked with the creative lead to fulfill all of the various design needs for WUSA (all of the above)!

WUSA has over 15+ different subbrands, so I got really comfortable with switching between visual languages.

I gained technical skill in:

1. Adobe Illustrator

2. Adobe Photoshop

3. Adobe InDesign

4. Adobe After Effects

I also got comfortable making graphics for social, digital, or print use.

What I learned

I learned that I love the variety of multiple brands!

When I started my job, it was definitely a lot of work to familiarize myself with each brand as they all had their own design guidelines, assets, and so on. However, the more I continued in this job the more I was excited to be able to switch between visual languages every day.

I got familiar with some core elements of brand design: color, type, assets (photo vs illustration), layout styles, and motifs.

As many of the brands had a fairly distinct aesthetic, this helped train my eye for the "building blocks" that help a brand stand out. This ended up being really useful knowledge for future brand design projects I've worked on.

Overall, I really enjoyed my co-op term at WUSA and developed a great mix of skills: graphic design, illustration, basic animation, and project management.
